Abstract

1343701 Rolling mills SECIM 10 June 1971 [12 June 1970] 20000/71 Heading B3M Any irregularities or defects in the rolls of a mill are recorded by operating the mill under noload, and are then fed back into the mill during normal operation in a sense to eliminate the defects. The defects are measured by sensing the hydraulic pressure in jacks 7 during rotation of the working and backing rolls of the mill. Changes in pressure are picked up by sensors 15, added at 16 and recorded, the signals being in analogue or digital form. The resulting recording can be used to compensate for defects in both the working and backing rolls. The jacks 7 may be independent of the normal fluid pressure system of the mill or may serve as balancing jacks for the mill; in the latter ease, they are isolated by valves 11 during the recording process.
