Abstract

1339683 Gyro compasses TOKYO KEIKI KK 9 May 1972 [15 May 1971] 21613/72 Heading G1C Gyro apparatus includes at least two gyro compasses 1a, 1b coupled to respective synchro control transmitters 2a, 2b to produce azimuth output signals, and a mean value calculator 12 to provide a mean value of said azimuth signals for an indicator 14a/14b. A difference circuit 17 provides a signal representing the difference between the azimuth signals for a warning unit F which compares the difference with a standard signal and actuates an alarm lamp 23 and buzzer 24 if the difference exceeds a predetermined value. The faulty gyro compass can then be switched out. Servo loops A, B for the gyro compasses 1a, 1b convert the azimuth signals from the synchro control transmitters 2 into mechanical signals for the mean value calculator 12 and the synchro control transmitters 15, 16 which provide the inputs to the difference circuit 17, the servo loops at the same time applying speed and heading corrections to the signals. The synchro control transmitters 2a, 2b rotate one revolution and nine revolutions respectively for one revolution of the compass azimuth card. The mean value calculator 12 drives two torque synchro transmitters 13a, 13b which produce signals respectively equal to one and thirty-six times the calculator 12 output. A three-way switch SW 1 connects the gyro compass synchro control transmitters to their respective servo loops A, B; connects both servo loops to the transmitters of compass 1a; or connects both servo loops to the transmitters of the compass 1b. Systems are described using three and four gyro compasses.
