Abstract

1336377 Railway vehicle couplings AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 14 May 1971 [28 May 1970 2 Sept 1970] 15059/71 Heading B7T In a railway vehicle coupler, the shank 10 of the coupler is connected to straps 14, 16 of a yoke by a pin 12, the rear face of the pin hole in the shank being defined by a part cylindrical concave surface 26 having a radius equal to the pin radius, the surface 26 merging with side walls 28, 30 of the pin hole, each of said side walls, tapering towards the horizontal centre line X-X of the shank from above and below to accommodate rotational movement of the shank, the pin being spaced from the front surface of the pin hole to accommodate vertical angling of the shank, and the surface 26 being bevelled at the top and bottom. The surface 26 may be hexagonal with the top and bottom sides being shorter than the other sides or in a modification longer than the other sides. In the modification, Fig. 8, the surface 26 merges tangentially to convex surfaces 52, 54 formed on radii R, R<SP>1</SP>.
