Abstract
1332489 Inductors and transformers W ZUMTOBEL 29. Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 61518/70 Heading H1T A core for an inductor or transformer is formed from outer laminated U-shaped portions 26 (Fig. 2) and two inner laminated portions 8 between which an air gap 1<SP>1</SP> is formed. The gap is bridged by an insert 7 of ferromagnetic material which contains a series of slots 12 (Fig. 3) arranged along its length, the dashed lines 10 indicating the extent to which the ferromagnetic member is embedded in the core portions 8, the dimensions. of the bridge being such that it reaches saturation for a lower coil energizing current than the core. An alternative embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5) has an air gap 4<SP>1</SP> between a single laminated centre core portion and the U-shaped outer core portions 21. Two substantially U-shaped ferromagnetic members 13 containing a series of notches 15 are inserted as shown such that the portions between the notches on the U-shaped members bridge the air gap 4<SP>1</SP>.
