Abstract

1326127 Machines for wrapping articles SCANDIA PACKAGING MACHINERY CO 15 June 1971 27955/71 Heading B8C A stationary tucking and folding device comprises a tucker blade means having a straight edge section located thereon in overlapping relationship to a folder member, a slot between the tucker blade means and the folder member having a configuration to receive an overfold portion of a wrapper to cause the overfold portion to bend inwardly with respect to the article over a tuck portion, the straight edge section being disposed at a height along the path of movement of the article to be contiguous to a second edge of the article to support the tuck portion beneath the overfold portion at the crease line while the folder member acts to crease the overfold portion along the second edge of the article. As shown, articles 2 fed from a magazine 3 are moved on a plate 5 by a chain conveyer 4 into the path of wrapping material 15 which is cut to length by a cutter 12. The partially wrapped article is then moved into a pocket of a turret wheel 13, where tucker blades 16 form tuck portions I at extensions of the wrapper at each end of the article. During rotation of the wheel 13 through 180 degrees the wrapper is folded and heat sealed along one side of the article, at stations 17, 18 and thereafter moves from the wheel 13 into contact with a stationary tucker blade A which form tuck portions II as the article moves along the plate 5, with an overfold portion III positioned between the blade A and a support plate (20), Fig. 3 (not shown), and a bottom overfold portion IV positioned between the plate 5 and blade A. The portions I and II are held in place below the portion III by an edge section (22) of the blade A, during which time a portion (23) of a folder member B bends the portion III downwardly, the portion (23) and the edge section (22) overlapping to form a step 24 to prevent release of the portion II before the portion III has been folded down. The member B also includes a second edge (25) to hold the sections 1 and II beneath the portion IV which is moved upwardly by a second folder member C having a folding edge (26) which overlaps the edge (25) of member
