1321559 Polarized bistable relays SIEMENS AG 30 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 35952/71 Heading H1N A polarized bistable electromagnetic relay has two movable armatures 41, 42, with their movable free ends co-operating with respective opposed pole plates 43, 44 therebetween and the armatures are magnetically coupled to an energizing winding 17 and a permanent magnet or magnets 34, 35 or 63, 64 by flux-carrying components 27 or 58 or 65, 66 in such a manner that the permanent magnet flux and the control flux have independent magnetic circuits arranged so that the armatures carry polarizing flux in their longitudinal direction and control flux passes transversely through the armatures in the vicinity of the air gaps which exist when the armatures 41, 42 are in the stable position (Figs. 3 and 5, not shown) spaced from the pole plates 43, 44. As shown in Fig. 2, the fluxcarrying components 27 may be cut away and slotted as at 29, 28 to divide the flux and limit interference between adjacent relays. In the arrangements of Figs. 2 and 4 the coil surrounds a core 24, 57 which is coupled by components 27, 58 to both armatures and permanent magnets and each magnet polarizes one respective armature. In the arrangement of Fig. 6 the coil (not shown) surrounds part of a U-shaped yoke member 65 and a separate U-shaped member 66 couples the permanent magnets 63, 64 in a series magnetic circuit including both armatures 41, 42. The contacts, armatures and pole plates are enclosed in a sealed chamber 21, 38. The armatures are mounted on springs 47, 48 which may have contact extensions 53, 54 cooperating with fixed contacts 55, 56 or the armatures may be the movable contacts.
