Abstract

1319703 Bicycle frames L W KING and J K PIZZEY 30 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12521/71 Heading B7E A bicycle is provided with a main frame 11 and a front wheel 21 located by rearwardly diverging links 18 connected by universal joints 23, 17 to wheel mountings 20 and the frame at 16 and by telescopic members 26 which are braced by a plate 29 at their upper ends, this plate being connected to frame 11 by a further universal joint 31 such that during a steering movement joints 23 move simultaneously, one with components of movement to one side or the other and rearwardly and the other with components of movement to the same side and forwardly. In a modification, Fig. 2, telescopic members 26 are replaced by rigid members connected via a plate 29a and universal joint 31a to a sub-frame 36 pivoted to the main frame about a transverse axis 37 and biased by spring units 38. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the subframe of Fig. 2 is replaced by a further pair of rearwardly divergent links pivoted by universal couplings to plate 29 at their front ends and to the main frame at their rear ends. The spring units 38 now extend between the front ends of links 18 and the rear ends of the further pair of links. In the modification of Fig. 7 the links 18d are pivoted to wheel mountings 20d and a main frame member 47 about vertical pivots.
