1314166 Releasable fastenings WEST ALLOY DIECASTINGS Ltd 25 Aug 1970 [9 June 1969] 29173/69 Heading E2A A sliding latch door fastener has a latch 3 which is urged into a latching position by a spring 4 and is released when a handle 5 is rotated in one direction from a rest position, and which is locked when the handle 5 is rotated in the reverse direction from the rest position. The handle 5, which is mounted on one side of a door D, has a stem 6 of square cross-section and carries collars 7, 8 thereon. The collar 7 has a striker 9, Fig. 5, which abuts a surface 10 of the latch 3 when the latter is being retracted and the collar 8 has a stub 11 which engages an abutment surface 12 of the latch 3 when locking is being effected. The collar 7, Fig. 4, has notches 15, 16 formed therein, the former being engaged by a plunger 13, Fig. 1, when the handle is in the latchlocking position in which the stub 11 of the collar 8 opposes the abutment 12 and the latter serving to maintain the handle 5 in its rest position. The latch 3 can be released from the other side of the door by a pivoted handle 26, Fig. 1, a peg 27, Fig. 8, of which abuts the latch 3. A key-operable barrel 23, Fig. 1, having a tongue 24 which is received in a cavity 25 of the handle stem 6, allows latchlocking or latch-unlocking to be effected from the other side of the door.
