Abstract

1311629 Spindle drive during piecing MAREMONT CORP 18 Aug 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 38840/71 Heading DID In an apparatus for servicing a spinning frame a rotatable disc 42 is provided to engage and control the rotation of the spindle 14'. A control actuator such as a cam 60" is connected loosely, e.g. by a stud 72 loosely engaging a yolk 70', to the mounting of the disc 42. The disc mounting arm 50 is pivoted at 84 to a member further pivoted about a driving roller 46. In the rest position, Fig. 2, a spring unit 56 holds the disc out of engagement with roller 46. On actuation by cam 60" movement of arm 50 first causes engagement of disc 42 with roller 46, Fig. 3 (not shown) then further movement brings disc 42 into engagement with the spindle 14' which is driven in reverse (its normal drive slipping). Still further movement leaves disc 42 engaged with spindle 14' but disengaged from roller 46, Fig. 5 (not shown). This allows spindle 14' to rotate disc 42 a limited amount. The amount of movement being limited by the bearing assembly of the disc illustrated in Fig. 7 (not shown). The cycle described is for a certain piecing operation, other piecing operations may be catered for by using a different cam shape. The cam 60" may be replaced by an hydraulic actuator, Fig. 5d (not shown) and the yoke and stud linkage may be replaced by loosely meshing gear segments, Fig. 5c (not shown) or a stud and slot, Fig. 5b (not shown). The whole apparatus is mounted in a travelling servicing unit, Fig. 1 (not shown).
