Abstract

502,538. Looms ; reversing-gearing. METZLER, K. Sept. 17, 1937, No. 26307 Convention date, Nov. 10, 1936. [Classes 142 (i), 142 (ii), and 142 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Consists in a driving and reversing mechanism for a weaving loom which on breakage or failure of a thread stops the loom, effects a return rotation to the open shed position and again stops the loom. The usual crank-shaft 3 has a bevel wheel 2 gearing with a pinion 4 on a shaft 5 adapted to be driven by a belt on a pulley 11 forming a carrier for planets 13, 14, engaging respectively with a sun 8 keyed to shaft 5, and a sun 15 rotatable on a shaft 5 and integral with a sleeve 16 movable axially thereon. The sleeve 16 forms a bearing for the pulley 11 which is the planet carrier and has a clutch face 21 adapted to coact with a fixed clutch face 22 on the bearing 6. The planet carrier has a clutch face 10 adapted to coact with a similar face on a disc 9 integral with the sun 8. The planet carrier and clutch face 21 are moved by a lever 19 pivoted at 20 and actuated by a rod 23. A bell-crank lever 27 has at one end a treadle 28, the other end being connected at 30 to a lever 31 and through a pin-and-slot 34, 35 to lever 19. A brake 36 is mounted on one end of a lever 37 the other end carrying a pivot 38 for a lever 39 provided with a treadle 40 at one end, the other end being connected at 41 with a further lever 42 to form a toggle, a projection 39<1> on lever 39 bearing against lever 42. To the free end of lever 42 is connected a link 45 engaging with lost motion the other end of lever 31. A link 48 connects the pin 41 with lost motion to the arm 51 of a three-arm lever, the arm 52 of which is connected by link 60 and lever 62 to a rod 63 which leads to the devices for interrupting the movement of the picking catch &c. The arm 53 carries a roller 55 in the path of a cam 56 on the wheel 2. If lever 19 is in a position so that both clutches are disengaged the brake 35 is applied, and the pulley 11 runs freely. To set the loom in motion, the lever 19 is moved to engage the clutch 10, 9 and remove the brake 36. On breakage of a weft the lever 19 is moved back and the brake applied, but the crank-shaft 3 rotates slightly further and has to be reversed to permit removal of the broken thread. Reversal is effected by depressing the lever 27 and this through the rods 29, 33 causes the lever 19 to turn counterclockwise to engage clutch faces 21, 22 and hold the sun 15 stationary, the brake 36 being at the same time released. This action also effects through mechanism 60, 63 the interruption of the control of the picking catch and the regulator movement. The shaft 5 now rotates. in the reverse direction at a reduced speed. When sufficient reversal has taken place, the cam 56 strikes roller 55, which has been brought into the path of the cam by operation of the lever 27, and moves lever 51 .. 53 to extend the toggle 39, 41, 42 to apply. the brake; at the same time the lever 19 is swung back to disengage the clutch 21, 22 and the loom is stopped.
