Abstract

1384304 Spindle drives; brakes MAREMONT CORP 4 May 1972 [2 June 1971] 20904/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] In a clutch-brake combination for a spinning machine wherein a clutch-brake plate 28 splined on a driven shaft (spindle blade) 12 is biased by a spring 40 into engagement with a driving pulley 24 and is moved against the spring bias into engagement with a brake surface 36 on energization of a stationary electromagnet 34, energization of a second electromagnet 50 removes the spring bias from the plate 28 which assumes a neutral position in which it is disengaged from both the driving pulley 24 and the brake surface 36 to permit free rotation of the driven shaft 12. The spring 40 acts through a hub 46 on the clutch-brake plate 28 and the hub 46 carries an armature plate 48 which, on energization of the second electromagnet 50, moves the hub 46 against the bias of the spring 40 out of engagement with the plate 28.
