Abstract
1310783 Spark gaps ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 27 May 1971 [11 June 1970] 17462/71 Heading H1D In a spark gap for a surge diverter with magnetic blowing of the arc comprising at least two discs 1 of electrically insulating material resistant to the arc having a space between them provided with metal electrodes 3, 4 and 7, the electrodes are arranged to form paths for the arcs running from a spark-over point 5 between electrodes 3 and 4 to the outer edge of a disc and then turning through an angle of between 90 and 180 degrees to expand and enter one or more extinguishing spaces 15 and 16. In the form shown the electrode 7 is provided with a projection 8 facing towards the sparkover print 5, and the electrodes 3 and 4 have eyes at their ends which surround respective projections 9 and 10 on the central part of the disc. In an alternative form (Fig. 2, not shown) the projection 8 is extended between the electrodes 3 and 4, and two intermediate electrodes are provided to form four gaps in series and four extinguishing chambers. A further alternative embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) comprises three chambers arranged one above the other and having communicating slots through which the electrodes 3 and 4 extend. Electrode 7 is located in the middle chamber. Each electrode 3 and 4 has an eye at both ends. One end of each electrode 3 and 4 surrounds a respective projection in the middle chamber while the other end surrounds a projection in the upper and lower chamber respectively.
