Abstract

1310268 Hydraulic rams C F WEYHAUSEN 4 May 1970 12 May 1969] 21307/70 Heading F1D Each of two similarly dimensioned hydraulic ram cylinders 3, 5 fixed to a first member 11 to be extended and having common end plates contain pistons 1, 6 the rods 1a, 6a of which:are of different diameter, extend in opposite directions and are fixed respectively at 14a, 14 to a stationary member 10 and to a second member 12 to be extended, and the head ends of the cylinders 3, 5 are hydraulically connected by a line 9 including a pretensioned check valve 7 whereas the rod ends of the cylinders are hydraulically connected by a line 4 having a branchline connected through non-pretensioned check valve 8 to the head end of cylinder 5 whereby to effect retraction. Pressure fluid is fed at 2 to the rod end of cylinder 3 thus the piston 6 hence member 12 is first retracted followed by retraction of connected cylinders 3, 5 and hence member 11. To effect extension of members 11, 12 pressure fluid is fed at 15 and through a bore in rod 1a extending through piston 1 to move connected cylinders 3, 5 thence member 11 to the right. When piston 1 abuts cylinder end wall 13 the pressure rise at the head end of cylinder 3 opens valve 7 resulting in piston 6, rod 6a thence member 12 being extended. The members 11, 12 form telescopic members of a jib arm 10.
