Abstract

1355313 Telescopic crane jibs RUSTONBUCYRUS Ltd 25 Oct 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 49089/72 Heading B8B [Also in Division F1] When a pair of rams 4, 11 are extended by pressure fluid supplied by a pump 19 through a line 24, their rates of extension are kept equal by a flow divider assembly 36 which meters proportional amounts of fluid out of the rod ends 7, 16 of the rams through lines 38, 39, and has pressure relief valves 42, 43 one of which opens to exhaust fluid from whichever of the rams is last to complete its stroke. Flow regulating valves 40, 41 are pilot controlled, to equalize the flow through lines 38, 39, by pilot lines 47, 46 respectively which sense the pressures in lines 39, 38. When one piston reaches the end of its stroke, flow of fluid from the other cylinder is throttled by one of valves 40, 41 thus causing a rise in pressure in one of lines 38, 39. At the preset pressure one of valves 42, 43 opens to connect one of lines 38, 39 to the reservoir. Valve 20 is manually operated and when fluid is supplied to the line 24 it passes first through check valves 29, 32 into cylinders 4, 11. Pressure from the lines 38, 39, acting through pilot lines 48, 49, subsequently opens valves 30, 33. The rams are described as being used to extend a telescopic boom, Fig. 1 (not shown).
