Abstract

1307953 Controlling fuel injection SOCIETE INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 21 May 1971 [5 June 19701 16296/71 Addition to 1207228 Heading F1B The invention relates to a modification of an I.C. fuel feed device described in Specification 1207228 in which fuel is fed to the intake pipe 1 of an I.C, engine downstream of the main throttle 2, an auxiliary throttle 3 responsive to airflow in the pipe 1 controlling a metering system to regulate the fuel injected to keep the mixture strength substantially constant. The metering system comprises an engine driven disc 18 having apertures 23 through which light can pass from a source 20 to a photo-diode 21, both carried by support 22 connected to auxiliary throttle 3 which moves support 22 towards shaft 19 as throttle 3 opens. The electrical output of the photo-diode 21 and the output from a photo-diode 77 providing a synchronizing signal in conjunction with steps 79 on disc 18 are fed to a pair of AND gates 71 and 72 the signal to gate 72 from photodiode 77 passing through an inverter 80. The outputs from AND gates 71 and 72 pass to amplifier 28 and then to electromagnets 17. The arrangement is such that when photo-diode 21 is illuminated, one or other of the valves 16 is open, depending upon whether photo-diode 77 is illuminated or not. It is arranged that change of state of photo-diode 77 occurs only when photo-diode 21 is not illuminated so that the times of opening of valves 16 depend only upon the times of illumination of photo-diode 21.
