Abstract

1518428 Automatic control of engine exhaust NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 26 April 1976 [24 April 1975] 16766/76 Heading G3R In a system in which the air/fuel ratio supplied to an I.C. engine is adjusted by a control signal in response to an exhaust gas sensor, the control signal is reduced when engine parameters indicate that the engine is idling. The object is to prevent hunting in these conditions. The system has an oxygen sensor 15 whose output is compared at 16 with a fixed reference to produce a high or low voltage according to whether the mixture is below or above stoichiometric, this voltage being supplied to P, 18 and I, 19 amplifiers whose outputs are combined at 23 and compared at 24 with a triangular waveform to produce square pulses to actuate a fuel injector or adjust a carburetter 10. When a transistor switch 27 connected to the throttle and a speed sensor 28 both indicate idling a NAND gate 21 opens gates Gl, G2 in the input resistor networks to the amplifiers, thereby increasing the input impedance and reducing the respective outputs, the combination of which constitutes the "control signal" of the claims. The gates may alternatively be on the output of the amplifiers.
