1304103 Reciprocating pumps and motors DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 14 March 1970 6546/71 Divided out of 1304101 Heading F1A In a swash-plate pump of the kind having a rotary block with axial cylinders which sequentially communicate with inlet and outlet ports in a valve member, (a) each piston is arranged to move into its cylinder after disconnection from the low- pressure port and before it is connected to the high-pressure port and (b) the tilt axis of the swash-plate 33 is arranged to lie between the line of action E-E of the thrust of each piston on the swash-plate when at the extreme outward end of its stroke, and a line D-D which passes perpendicularly through an articulation plane G-G at its point of intersection with the cylinder block axis A-A. The articulation plane is defined as the plane passing through each of a plurality of points each fixed relative to a piston and about which the swash-plate is angularly movable relative to that piston. This arrangement results in the pistons applying a uni-directional turning moment to the swash-plate irrespective of its angle, whereby a single-acting servo motor can be used to effect swash angle adjustment. The pump described is identical to that described Specification 1304101.
