Abstract

1,063,020. Reciprocating pumps. E. L. SHERROD. Nov. 5, 1964 [Nov. 8, 1963], No. 45150/64. Heading F1A. A reciprocating pump for semi-liquid materials, e.g. concrete, comprises a feed chamber 10, cylinders 11, 12, 13 housing pistons reciprocated by double-acting hydraulic assemblies 17, 18 and valve members 29 and 30 provided with delivery passages 31 therethrough which are in continuous communication with and rotatable about the axis of delivery ports 32 in the feed chamber which communicate with a delivery line 15. The valve members 29 and 30 are oscillated relative to cylinder ports (11', 12', 13'), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the feed chamber by means of double-acting hydraulic actuators (42, 45) and (52, 53) respectively, in synchronism with the reciprocation of the pumping pistons, to connect the cylinders alternately to the feed chamber and the delivery passages (31). In a further embodiment, Figs.4 to 8 (not shown), a single valve member (60), controls communication between the cylinder ports (74, 75, 76) of three angularly equispaced cylinders (73) with a feed chamber (65) and a passage (87) through the valve member in communication with a delivery line. The valve member (60) is rotated by means of a ratchet (90) fixed thereto, actuated by a pair of fluid-pressure actuators (94, 96) and (95, 97) operating in opposite phase and moving the valve member through 60 degrees of the 120 degrees of rotation between one cylinder port and the next. It is stated that the pumps may have one, two or four cylinders.
