Abstract

1303295 Impact wrenches INGERSOLLRAND CO 21 July 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 35273/70 Heading B3N An impact wrench has a torsion spring 7 connected to an anvil 4, the anvil has an extension tube 5 with a latch sleeve 15 mounted thereon which is adapted to move from an inoperative position, as shown, to an operative position, shown in dotted lines, in which the anvil is connected directly to end 11 of the spring 7 so that its effect is by-passed and a higher torque can be transmitted by the wrench. The sleeve can be moved whilst the wrench is being operated. The sleeve is splined to tube 5 and is biased to an inoperative position by spring 19. A snap ring 22 limits forward movement of sleeve 15 and spring 7 is retained in engagement with the anvil by a pin 9. The torsion spring 7, extension tube 5 and sleeve 15 can be incorporated as an attachment 26, Fig. 6.
