Abstract

1301108 Fluid bearings CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 22 Dec 1969 [17 Jan 1969] 62369/69 Heading F2A [Also in Division F1] An hydrostatic thrust bearing has a plurality of pockets 36 disposed annularly in a member 10, each pocket being connected to a source 38 of pressurized fluid, each pocket containing a bearing member 35 mounted for axial and tilting movement. Each bearing member has a bearing pad 50 with a central recess, which is in communication with the source of pressurized fluid and which is surrounded by a raised circular sill. The bearing members are in bearing engagement with a thrust surface towards which they are urged by the fluid pressure. The members are located in blind bores which are disposed around the periphery of a radial thrust flange 10 and may be connected so that pressure is supplied to some of the bores from one source and to other bores from another source. Preferably the bores are connected to form two semicircular sets of pockets. Each pad may contain a filter 54 for the fluid.
