Rotation of the handle 41 about the cable axis may be transmitted by the cable and/or the sheath the end of which is then appropriately non-circular. Axial movement, e.g. due to the handle 41 pivoting at 42 may be transmitted either by the cable 35, or another cable in the same sheath, or by grease filling the sheath between two pistons connected by the handle and the valve. The handle assembly may be directly mountable on the valve assembly with the cable and housing removed; e.g. by the cable having one end squared and at the other end a square socket. One valve assembly 25 may be operable from either of two handle assemblies, as shown in Fig. 6. The valve assembly shown in Fig. 2 comprises an inlet 22 selectively connectible to outlets 23 (only one shown) by the rotation of one part 25 relative to a fixed part 21, 26 to align a hollow insert 28 with outlet ports 24. Flow from the inlet 22 to the insert 28 is by a valve 30, 31 opened against a spring 32 by axial movement of the cable 35 &c.
