1276629 Reciprocating pump; producing pressure pulses VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO-KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT DOBYCHI UGLYA GIDRAVLICHESKIM SPOSOBOM 20 Feb 1970 8343/70 Headings F1A and F1P A device for producing high pressure pulses in a liquid and operable as a pump comprises a pumping piston 9 connected to a working piston 10, the pistons being mounted in a cylinder 1 divided by a partition 11. For the suction stroke, pressure liquid is supplied via pipes 14 and 30 to the annular chamber 12 in front of the piston 10, while the annular chamber behind the piston 9 is connected to a drain line 15 via a pipe 32 and a slide valve 16, and as the piston 10 moves back, gas behind the piston is compressed and forced through apertures 5 into a vessel 6. Pressure liquid is also supplied via throttle valves 22, 23 to a chamber 4 and the space in front of the piston 9. At the end of the suction stroke, the piston 10 engages a projection on a slide valve 18, moving its spool 20 to connect an annular space 28 between the casing and a spool 17 of the valve 16 to the drain line 15, enabling the spool 17 to move to the right, under the action of a spring 31 and pressure liquid which is continually supplied to a second annular space 29, connecting pipe 32 and hence chamber 12 to the liquid supply line 14. The pistons 9, 10 now perform the pumping stroke, a plunger 21 projecting from the piston 9 impacting the liquid in chamber 4 producing a pressure pulse. Pressure liquid supplied to the space 34 behind the spool 20 moves the spool to the left forcing liquid from the annular space 37 via a throttle valve 39 which is adjustable to vary the pumping rate. The spool 20 now connects the annular space 28 to the pressure line 14, spool 17 is moved to the left due to the differential area, and the chamber 13 is connected to the drain line 15 to commence another suction stroke. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1081076.
