Abstract
Pressure impulses are produced in a liquid in a device comprising a cylinder and a reciprocating piston moving inside it which divides the space of the cylinder into two chambers, one of which is in communication with compressed gas, whilst the other is filled with liquid and has an opening for the flow of the liquid under pressure resulting from the shock action of the piston which is propelled by the compressed gas of the first chamber. On the face at the end of the cylinder on the side of the first chamber are suction and discharge valves. The suction valve connects the first chamber with the atmosphere whereas the piston movement at the side of the second chamber and the discharge valve connects the first chamber with the compressed gas during the return movement of the piston. Means are provided for closing the pipe connecting the compressed chamber with the first chamber when air is admitted to it from the outside. Use: splitting rocks, hydraulic metal stamping and cutting.
