Abstract

1331977 Reciprocating pumps H GRAFFMAN 14 Dec 1970 [ 12 Dec 1969] 59299/70 Heading F1A A bucket pump for supplying pulses of fuel to a carburretter comprises a two-part piston 7, 8 having conical surfaces 9 which sealingly engage during the compression stroke of the piston to deliver a pulse of fuel through an outlet valve 3 and which disengage during the return stroke of the piston to permit fuel to flow from a suction chamber 14 to the compression chamber 13. A stop 11 limits the free axial movement between the two parts of the piston. The piston is actuated by a cam (not shown) acting through a follower 22, rod 23, springs 25, block 26 and piston rod 17. The springs 25 provide a variable effective length of the piston movement which is a function of the pressure produced in the compression space 13. This pressure can be adjusted by varying the loading on the springs 25. A piston return spring 21 is provided.
