Abstract
1,259,354. Isolating switches. SWITCHGEAR & EQUIPMENT Ltd. 13 April, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 19036/69. Heading H1N. An isolating switch of a rotating post type has three post insulators 10, 11, 12, in a row, the end posts diverging upwards from each other and from the middle post, with fixed isolating contacts 17 being engaged by moving isolating contacts 21 which are carried by a bridging arm having a pair of interrupter housings 20 incorporating arcing contacts with gas quenching. Each housing comprises a tubular insulator 30 within which are six longitudinal rods of insulating material, three of which, 31, are fixed, the other three, 32, being longitudinally slidable. An operating rod moves main contact 40 and arcing contact 67 into engagement with resiliently mounted fixed contact 61 and arcing contact 65 respectively, and via plate 45, slidable rods 32, and plate 51 also moves main contact 50 associated with an identical contact arrangement. Disengagement of the main contacts 40, 61 and 50, 71 causes in each case, initially, the compression of springs 83 by bolt 82 until the " lost motion " connection with the respective arcing electrode is taken up and that electrode is also disengaged. Puffer pistons 57, 85 cause a blast of gas, e.g. SF6, through the nozzles 76, 66 respectively, the complete housing being sealed by means of bellows 37. A vertical operating rod is connected to operating rods 36 by gearing 19 and at its lower end to an unspecified operating mechanism. A three phase arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), is mounted on a single beam 15 which covers the common operating mechanism.
