Abstract

1382372 Ciruit breaker SIEMENS AG 6 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 10925/73 Heading H1N In a gas blast electrical circuit breaker two stationary contacts 2, 3 are connected by a first moving, auxiliary, contact 14 and a second moving, load-carrying, contact 16 in parallel with one another, the arrangement being such that during circuit breaking the load carrying contact is moved away from its co-operating fixed contact before the auxiliary contact moves leaving the auxiliary contact to break the circuit and suffer the effect of arcing. In breaking the circuit, from the position on the right of the figure to the position on the left, moving contact 16 is driven by actuator rod 12 and moves away from the fixed contact 2 carrying with it shaped piston 8 which slides over the fixed contact body to compress sulphur hexafluoride gas in space 23. An impact clutch comprising members 15, 16 then jerks contact 14 away from fixed contact 2 to open the circuit and release the compressed gas through nozzles 4, 5 in the fixed contacts to extinguish the are.
