Abstract

1424412 High voltage switch WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 20 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 13312/73 Heading H1N A switch in a gas insulated bus-bar system, whose movable contact member 18 makes and breaks connection between bus-bar conductors 13, comprises a rotatable operating shaft 20 coupled to an operating lever 40 which can slide the contact member 18 to and fro via cam 48, follower 46 and shaft 24, the operating shaft 20 being rotated by a driving motor via a lost motion connection in the form of a notched rotatable coupling, and turning a three-legged overcentre toggle member 57 which operates in conjunction with spring mechanism 65, to provide a snap-action, there being a second lost motion connection 71 between the toggle member and a further operating lever 54 coupled to shaft 20. The toggle member 57 is loose on the operating shaft, and the second lost motion is provided by two legs of the toggle, 180 degrees apart, being arranged to strike alternately one or other of two adjustable means on the lever 54 to move that lever. The spring mechanism 65 has a throw of approximately 180 degrees. A dashpot 26 cushions the opening operation of the switch. The bus-bars are filled with SF 6 under pressure and compartmentalized by spacers 9 which serve to support the conductors 13 of the bus-bars.
