A card plate for controlling air currents generated by a card cylinder consists of a metal backing plate A conforming generally to the curvature of the cylinder, and a frangible, non-metallic inner lining B affixed to the backing plate, the lining B being constructed of rigid insulating material having a low coefficient of friction on the concave surface and being capable of pulverizing without shredding and without imbedding in or damaging the teeth of the card cylinder. Preferably the lining is constructed of phenolic impregnated paper, and the backing plate is constructed of steel.
