Abstract

1,248,224. Valves. J. BERNOUIS. 9 Oct., 1968 [9 Oct., 1967], No. 47939/68. Heading F2V. A tap comprises a closure member 37 or 47 of elastomeric material in the form of a body of revolution, connected to two elements which are displaceable relatively to each other to deform the body by stretching it so that it is radially contracted and opens an annular passage between the body and the wall of a chamber which it sealingly engages in the undeformed position. As shown in a hot and cold water mixing tap, separate closure members 37, 47 are provided for the hot and cold water. The members are stretched by headed pins 38, 48 which engage cam surfaces 39b, 49b on rotatable rings 40, 50. The rings are driven through racks 41, 42 by a common pinion 57 on a handle 51 which is rotatable about its axis and also rotatable bodily about the axis of the tap body 31. Rest portions 39a, 49a of the cams enable the hot and cold water to be controlled independently. The body carries an operating rod 53 for the waste plug of a basin. In modifications, either the valve member or the chamber wall has an annular bead. In another modification, the elastomeric body is connected to two elements having bell-shaped portions in the interior of the body.
