Abstract

1401539 Valves ADAR 14 Aug 1972 [24 Sept 1971 31 March 1972] 37767/72 Heading F2V Flow from an inlet 9 to an outlet 10 is controlled by a double valve member 7, 13 cooperating with seals 20, 3 of a cage 1, and one of the co-operating closure parts is resilient. As shown in Fig. 1, valve member portion 13 is resilient and includes a backing member. Valve member portion 7 is made as a cup shape having a valving bead 19 extending from an outer wall which is a loose fit in the cage 1, and the latter is formed with lateral ports 2. In closing the valve by stem 8, the resilient member 13 engages its seat 3 whereupon further downward movement of stem 8 results in bead 19 engaging its seat 20. Valving portion 7 is pressure balanced by way of a passageway extending through the stem. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the whole of the valve member 7 is rigid but the upper seat is resilient.
