Abstract

1,234,506. Bi-component fibrous yarns and fabrics; finishing fabrics; non-woven fabrics. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 March, 1970 [12 March, 1969], No. 13022/ 69. Headings DIR, DIS and D1W. A yarn or textile fabric contains bi-component staple fibres of sheath/core construction, the core having a lower melting point than the sheath, the end portions of the fibres being bonded to other fibres. The yarn or fabric is heated to a temperature between the two melting-points, and the core exudes from the ends of the fibres to adhere to other fibres. The treatment is stated to reduce pilling. The yarn or fabric preferably comprises at least 50% by weight of bi-component fibres containing at least 25% of the core-component. Suitable fibres comprise; sheath-polyhexamethylene adipamide, core-polyhexamethylene adipamide/polyhexamethylene isophthalamide copolymer or polyhexamethylene adipamide/polyepsilon caprolactam copolymer; sheath-polyethylene terephthalate, core-polyethylene terephthalate/isophthalate copolymer. The fibres may be blended with nylon staple fibres.
