Abstract

1,228,524. Feeding webs. ROLAND OFFSETMASCHINENFABKIK FABER AND SCHLEICHER A.G. 2 April, 1969 [18 May, 1968], No. 17361/69. Heading B8R. In apparatus for maintaining constant the tension of a web 1 of material which is passing through a first pair of draw rolls 3, printing units 6, 7, a drying device 8 and a second pair of draw rolls 9, the web tension between the rolls 3 and the unit 6 is maintained constant by a known arrangement which automatically adjusts the speed of the rolls 3 in dependence upon tension variations as detected by a sensor 5, e.g. a dancer roller (as shown), a pneumatic device or an optical device, and means are provided to adjust the speed of the second rolls 9 so that a specific speed ratio is maintained between the first and second pairs of draw rolls. As shown, the rolls 3 and 9 are associated with respective gears 10, 11 adjustable by servomotors 12, 13, the servomotor 12 being automatically controlled by the tension-sensing roller 5; an indicator 18 gives a digital representation of the difference in speed between the draw rolls 3, 9 measured by tachometers 19, 20, the servomotor 13 being controlled by the actuation of pushbuttons 22, 23 to maintain the desired speed ratio between the rolls 3 and 9.
