Abstract

1,258,911. Feeding webs. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY Ltd. 20 May, 1969 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 9578/68. Heading B8R. The extended main drive shaft 1 of a rotary printing press including a printing unit or units (not shown) co-operates with an adjustablepressure roller 6 to create a nip for feeding a web into the press, the web being drawn from a reel 5 supported in a stand including side frames 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and the shaft 1 imparting a linear speed of feed to the web equivalent to the linear speed of printing imparted by the press. The shaft 1 runs parallel with the press and the stand is provided with a turning bar 81, adjustable by a hand wheel 84, so that the web is turned into line with the press. A linkage 7, 14, 4 enables the pressure roller 6 to be moved into or out of engagement with the shaft 1 which may be provided with a knurled surface or a sleeve. An additional web feed unit may be provided by adding a further side frame 3<SP>2</SP> to the existing reel frame, or by stacking the reel stands one above the other, suitable extensions to the drive shaft 1 being provided in each case.
