Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-In apparatus embodying a piston or diaphragm A working in a hydraulic cylinder B and controlling by means of rods a<1>, a valves and other mechanisms, the ends of the cylinder are connected by pipes D, D<1> to liquid-containing chambers C, C<1>. The spaces above the liquid in the chambers normally communicate through the hollow bodies of valves G, G<1> with exhaust openings F, F<1>. By means of a lever I<1> operated by hand or mechanically, a spring-controlled stem J or J' may be actuated to raise either valve and close its exhaust passages so that air or other fluid under pressure enters the corresponding chamber through a passage E or E<1>, and by acting on the liquid causes the piston or diaphragm A to move.
