Abstract

1,218,130. Rotary positive-displacement compressors. INGERSOLL-RAND CO. Nov. 18, 1968 [Dec. 20, 1967], No.54618/68. Heading F1F. A compressor of the externally-meshing screwtype has two stages 1, 2 arranged to effect inward counter-flow of the working fluid, the male rotors 4, 5 being secured to a driving-shaft 7. Inlet and outlet ports 9, 11, 12, 14 for the fluid are disposed as shown, the outlet port 11 of the first stage being connected by piping (not shown) to the inlet port 12 of the second stage. The ports 9, 12 communicate with volute chambers 10, 13. Unbalanced axial thrust on the shaft 7 and the female rotor 6 of the second stage are taken up by bearings 32 lubricated through apertures 15. The compressor may be modified to effect outward counter-flow.
