Abstract
1423673 Rotary positive-displacement machines J N SIMPSON 19 Nov 1973 53526/73 Heading F1F In a mutating-disc pump, or compressor, a rotor 8 comprises radial vanes 6 fixed to annular end members, which have frusto-conic inner surfaces and are coupled by e.g. gears 4, 9, 23, to a disc 11 so as to rotate therewith at the same speed, seals 22 in slots in the disc engaging with the vanes such that the latter are free to slide therebetween. Seals 36 on the periphery of the disc abut a liner 31 secured to the housing 1 and having annular recesses 32 for a cooling fluid. Seals 35, 38 are provided at the outer and inner edges of each vane. Inlet and outlet ports 28, 29, and 27, 30, communicate with the intervane spaces on either side of the disc.
