Abstract

1,216,936. Grab excavators. ORENSTEIN & KOPPEL A.G. 11 Dec., 1968 [23 Dec., 1967], No. 58936/68. Heading E1F. A machine for digging deep trenches comprises a modified bucket excavator 1 in which the normal dipper arm and the bucket of the excavator are replaced by an over length dipper arm 6 supporting a grab-carrying tie rod 10, which is engaged for guidance in its vertical movement by a bridge member 14 pivoted to the superstructure of the excavator. Preferably, the tie rod is surrounded by a guidance frame 16 pivotally secured to the outer end of the bridge member and is coupled to the arm 6 via a rotary head 6. The movements of the jib and the dipper are matched to ensure vertical lowering of the grab, these movements being electrically programmed. Closing of the grab is used to actuate a limit switch in an electrical circuit having an indicator lamp on the driving platform of the excavator.
