Abstract

1443250 Shovel excavators J I CASE CO 13 Dec 1974 [22 April 1974] 53933/74 Heading E1F A machine having a load-supporting boom, e.g. a back hoe excavator, comprises a rotatable platform 14 with a boom 16 pivotally supported thereon for movement about a horizontal pivot 18, a counterweight 30 having a recess 44 therein and a permanent pin 100 extending across the recess 44, means 90 mounted on the platform 14 for engaging the pin 100, a bearing hanger 38 on the platform 11 to be received in the recess 44 and having an opening 40 therein, the counterweight 30 having a bore 46 extending from a side wall 48 thereof across the recess 44, which bore has an enlarged portion 50 adjacent the side wall 48 and a reduced portion 52 extending across the recess, and a removable pin 52 received in the bore 50 and extending through the opening 40 in the hanger 38 for supporting the counterweight on the platform 14, the removable pin 52 including a pin portion 56 which fits the reduced portion 52 of the bore 46 and a handle portion 58 of smaller diameter than the portion 52 and connected to said portion. The bore 46 and the pin 52 are located on the counterweight 30 between the platform 14 and the centre of gravity of the counterweight so that the counterweight will tend towards the platform when supported by the pin. A releasable fastening device 60 may be provided for holding the counterweight in a fixed position with respect to the platform. Adjustable positions means 80 may be provided on the platform to facilitate alignment of the bore 46 and the opening when the counterweight is presented to the platform.
