Abstract

1383319 Joint-making packing TPNICHOLSON 16 Nov 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38791/71 Heading F2B Sealing means 8, particularly for use between a cylinder liner 6 and head 4, comprises a metallic ring having a solid base part 10 and a radially inwardly facing integral channel part 22, the radial depth of the base part being not less than the internal radial depth of the channel part, and channel section spring means 20 located between the walls 16, 18 of the channel part to urge them apart against the surfaces 24, 26, Fig. 2. The spring means may have holes therein to allow pressure gas from the cylinder to enter the space between the ring and the spring. The ring may be of carbon steel or a corrosion resistant alloy.
