Abstract
1,203,606. Rail vehicle combined buffer and draw gear. RHEINSTAHL SIEGENER EISENBAHNBEDARF G.m.b.H. 25 Sept., 1967 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 43627/67. Heading B7T. A rail vehicle shook absorber arrangement comprises a beam 2 having end parts 3, which carry the draw-and-buffer gear, and a centre part pivoted to the end parts and which carries a friction shoe assembly 6, the beam 2 being longitudinally displaceable with respect to the load carrying portion of the vehicle, said assembly 6 consisting of a wedge member 9 which during said displacement coacts with complementary shoes 10 to force friction pads 11 against slide rails 12, said beam being biased to its centre rest position by a spring 17. The rails 12 are loaded by springs 14 towards the shoe assembly and this loading increases in proportion to the load carried by the vehicle by using a lever system from a loaded spring axle. When the shoe assembly returns to its centre position there is no wedging action since the returning force exerted by spring 17 acts directly on the shoes 10 either via rods 22 or via stop members 21. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, friction pads 29 are forced against either side of slide rail 23 by complementary wedge members 30, these members being spring loaded, and connected with the centre part of the beam 2. A coil spring 32 returns the shoe assembly to its centre position after longitudinal displacement, and the returning force is transmitted either by rods 37 or flanges 36 fixed to a tube 35 according to the direction of movement.
