Abstract

1,199,754. Feeding webs. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 4 Aug., 1967 [8 Aug., 1966], No. 35949/67. Heading B8R. Transverse web-registering apparatus comprises a rectangular frame 18 which carries two parallel spaced rollers 20 and 22. The web enters the apparatus via a guide roller 16 and exits via roller 26. The frame is pivoted about an axis 28 which is in the plane of and directionally aligned with the web leaving the apparatus. The axis also registers with the proposed centre line of the web. An unspecified web edge sensing device 30, is attached to the guide frame 18 to sense the edge of the web entering the apparatus. A pneumatic, hydraulic or electromechanical controller 32 is connected to the sensing device 30, and pivots the frame 18 about the axis 28. In operation, the sensing device 30 follows the deviations of the web edge and maintains the path of the web relative to the roller 20 constant. The web follows an identical relative path over roller 22, which in practice is equal to the web being centrally aligned to the pivot axis 28. Various other embodiments are illustrated which have the pivot axis in the plane of and aligned with the web leaving the guiding apparatus. In (Fig. 6) one roller only is provided, the web turning through 180 degrees around the roller.
