Abstract

1325567 Guiding webs EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 Oct 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 51756/70 Heading B8R A roller 2 supporting a web 12 which is laterally and angularly constrained at the roller by means not shown is mounted for rotation on a shaft 3 journalled in a support S which is connected to a base B by constraints in the form of flexures 30, 32, 34 and 36 so arranted that the support has only two degrees of movement, viz. pivotal movement of the roller 2 about an upstream castoring axis 26 and pivotal movement about a gimbal axis 24 which intersects and is perpendicular to both the longitudinal axis of the roller 2 and the castoring axis 26. The castoring axis may have a position in a range between being perpendicular to the plane in which the web 12 approaches the roller 2 and being parallel to the steering axis 20, which axis extends through the midpoint of the roller and lies in the plane bisecting the included angle between adjacent portions of the web as it approaches and leaves the roller. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the constraints for the support S include an anvil roller towards which the roller 2 is urged by a spring, forming a nip to grip the web. The arrangement is such that the roller 2 provides only a perpendicular support for the web and does not exert any substantial lateral forces thereon.
