Abstract

1,196,554. Counterweights for balancing cranes. T. T. BOUGHTON & SONS Ltd. 2 May, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 20994/68. Heading B8B. A mobile side-boom crane is provided with a counterweight 1 mounted on first and second links 8, 14 pivotally connected to the crane at 11, 15 and to the counterweight 1 at 4, 5. An hydraulic jack 20 controls the angular positions of the links 8, 14, the pivot points 4, 5 being moved away from the crane by operation of the jack 20 to increase the angle of inclination of the line joining 4 to 5 to the vertical and to increase the distance between the centre of gravity of the counterweight 1 and the crane. In practice the counterweight 1 is connected to a similar counterweight (2), Fig. 2 (not shown), similarly mounted. An alternative position for the link 8 is shown dotted at 8a the pivot point being 10a on the crane. In this case the counterweight 1 is higher above ground when extended, but closer to the crane.
