Abstract

1,189,352. Valves. STRINGER BROS. & MATTY Ltd. 7 June, 1968 [7 March, 1967], No. 10760/67. Heading F2V. A plug 13 for a plug cock comprises a hollow generally cylindrical portion having a frustoconical external surface and a sleeve 35 having a number of apertures 34, 40, 41 or 32, 33, 42 which can be aligned with apertures 19, 20, 21 in the plug, at least one of the apertures in the sleeve being of smaller size than the corresponding aperture in the plug. The sleeve may be screwed into the plug, as shown, or have a closed upper end and be secured by a single central screw. Pins, such as 36, co-operate with a flange or recesses in the sleeve to locate the sleeve in either of two positions which are separated by 180 degrees and correspond to alignment between the plug apertures and one of the two sets of sleeve apertures. A circumferential track in the outer surface of the plug terminates at a position beyond the peripheral apertures to provide a by-pass flow from the inlet 10 to a port 12. A spring-loaded ball 30 engages notches in the plug to locate it in predetermined positions. The sleeve 35 enables the cock to be converted for use with natural gas.
