Abstract

981,513. Vehicle lighting systems. G. T. BIBBY. Aug. 22, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1963], No. 6925/63. Heading H2H. A vehicle lighting system comprises means to give prior indication whether the headlamp, when switched on, will have its main beam filament or its dipped beam filament energized. A solenoid 4 and a dip switch 10 are shown in the dipped position so that when the lighting switch 13 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 1C the sidelamp 9 is illuminated but a warning lamp W remains unlit indicating that when the switch 13 is moved to the headlamp position shown in Fig. 1D the headlamp dipped filament 6 will be energized. If however the switch 10 is in the main beam position, i.e. in contact with the contact 12, movement of the switch 13 to the sidelamp position of Fig. 1C will cause the warning lamp W to be illuminated and the solenoid 4 to become energized to move the contact 1 on to contact 5. Illumination of the warning lamp W indicates that when the switch 13 is moved to the headlamp position shown in Fig. 1D the main beam filament will be energized. In a second embodiment the solenoid 4 may be dispensed with and the dip switch provided with two moving contacts. The arrangement may be applied either to twin filament headlamp systems or to solenoid-operated dipping systems.
