An inverter as shown in Fig. 3 comprises two or more half bridges in series, each bridge containing two capacitors (e.g. 26, 27) and two switches (e.g. semi-conductors 22, 23) linked by the primary of a transformer (e.g. 17), the load (not shown) being supplied by the secondary windings 16, 21 in series, the circuit including means for equalizing the voltage distribution between the different half bridges, comprising a tertiary winding on each transformer (18, 19), these windings being connected in series opposition through a current-limiting resistor 33.
