Abstract

1,185,778. Releasable fastenings. HOPE WORKS Ltd. 6 Jan., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 9392/68. Heading E2A. Fastening means for a pivoted window comprises a striker member 11 adapted to be mounted on a sill or window surround together with a handle 15 which is pivotally connected to a base member 16 adapted to be mounted on the window, said striker member being provided with a projecting lug 14 and the handle having a projecting tongue 19 together with a cam surface 20, the handle being pivotable when, in use, the window is closed, to a fastening position in which said lug is disposed between the handle tongue and the handle cam surface to retain the window in the closed position and said lug, tongue and cam surface being so shaped that when the handle is pivoted towards its fastening position on closing the window the handle tongue will engage one side of the lug to force the window into the closed position whereas when the handle is afterwards pivoted away from its fastening position prior to opening the window the cam surface will engage the other side of the lug to force the window away from its closed position. As shown the cam surface 20 is helically disposed on a boss portion 17 of the handle. The base member is provided with a projection 22 which is adapted to engage either of a pair of abutments formed on the boss portion 17 whereby pivotal movement of the handle is limited to an arc of approximately 90‹. The attachment flange 12 of the striker member is provided with a pair of slots 24 spaced from the lug 14 and into which the handle tongue 19 can be inserted if it is desired to retain the window in a slightly open position. The base member 16 is also provided with a projecting tongue 25 which is adapted to enter into a recess 26 formed in the striker member flange 12 when the window approaches its closed position whereby the handle is guided into a correctly aligned position relative to the striker member.
