Abstract

1,183,868. Bearings. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY KONSTRUKTORSKOTEKHNOLOGISHESKY INSTITUT. 8 Dec., 1967, No. 55879/67. Heading F2A. A bearing for a gimbal pivot 4, Fig. 1, comprises an outer race 1, an inner race 3 and an intermediate race 2, a set of balls 5 positioned between the races 1 and 2 and a set of balls 6 positioned between the races 3 and 2, and a support 10 which engages the set of balls 6. Thus the set of balls 6 are retained in their zone of contact by means of the races 3, 2 and the support 10. The balls 5, 6 are provided with cages 7, 8 respectively, the latter resting on the balls 6. The grooves of the races 1 and 2 may be of prismatic shape so as to provide a fourcontact bearing. In a modification the support 10 is integral with the outer race 1. In another embodiment a shaft 12, Fig. 3, forms the inner race; an intermediate race is formed by means of members 2<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP>, each having conical races which engage the balls 6; and an outer race 1 is provided, balls 5 being positioned between the member 2<SP>1</SP> and the outer race 1. The shaft 12, having a semi-spherical end 13, is restricted axially in one direction by means of an adjustable plain thrust bearing 14.
