Abstract
1,172,212. Extruding. INSTITUT FIZIKI METALLOV. 26 Jan., 1968, No. 4157/68. Heading B3P. A hydrostatic extrusion apparatus has its die 6 pressed against the extrusion container 1 by an hydraulic drive 5, 10 which is releasably secured to the container by locking means 20 and which is movable both axially and transversely of the extrusion axis. Die 6 is supported for self-alignment on a spherical surface of a member 9 carried by a double-acting hydraulic piston 10 in cylinder 5 which is movable vertically by an hydraulic drive 15, 16 and horizontally by a carriage 12 connected to an hydraulic drive 13. Induction heaters 22 are provided for the die and the extrusion container. In operation, blanks 7 are loaded into the die 6 when the latter is in its inoperative position removed from the container 1. Drive 13 then moves the die into the extrusion axis and drive 16 raises the cylinder 5 into position adjacent the container to which it is then secured by gibs 20 operated by fluid cylinders. Piston 10 is then raised to press the die 6 against the container 1. After extrusion, the product 17 is separated from the discard and the die containing the discard is removed to the inoperative position where the discard is ejected by a press.
