Abstract

766,700. Forging presses. SCHLOEMANN AKT.-GES. July 6, 1954 [Aug. 1, 1953], No. 19727/54. Class 83 (4). A vertical hydraulic metal-working press has a plurality of pressing toolsor plungers 7, 6, 8 concyclically arranged and actuated each by a separate hydraulic motor for performing successive operations on a workpiece, and a turntable 9 equipped with containers 10 to accommodate the workpieces 11 and convey them in succession to the tools. The press is used for producing hollow steel ingots for subsequent extrusion and has three vertical columns on one of which 3, Fig. 2, the turntable is rotatably mounted on bearings 9a. A solid workpiece 11 is first upset by the plunger 7 operated by a hydraulic piston 7a. The workpiece is then partially pierced by plunger 6 operated by hydraulic piston 5 to form the workpiece 11a. The closed end of the latter is then removed by a punch 8 operated by hydraulic piston 8a. The cross-sectional areas of the hydraulic pistons are proportional to the forces they are required to exert. Cross-pieces 19, 20 operated independently of the plungers 8, 6 respectively are used to engage the containers and guide these plungers and also to prevent the workpieces from being lifting out of their containers during the upstrokes of the plungers. The cross-piece 20 has a spigot 20a which enters the upper end of the container 10 and serves to form a smooth upper surface on the pierced workpiece; a similar spigot may be provided on the crosspiece 19. A hydraulicallyoperated ejector 15, Fig. 5 (not shown), removes the finished workpiece upwardly out of its container. The plungers may operate simultaneously or successively and may be controlled automatically by the movement of the turntable or of the cross-pieces.
